Each Monday, The Clarion-Ledger releases a list of the top-10 boys and girls basketball teams in the state.
Below is the Super 10 for the week of Jan. 12 and a breakdown of each team.
1. Callaway (15-2) – Last week: 1
The Chargers routed Vicksburg 83-61 in their district opener and finished 2-0 at Mustang Madness. What’s most impressive about Callaway’s performance in Kentucky is a 72-66 win over nationally ranked Huntington Prep (W. Va.).
2. Velma Jackson (13-2) – Last week: 2
The Falcons handed Murray (Ky.) a 62-35 loss at Mustang Madness en route to their 13th win of the season. Velma Jackson hits the road for a four-game away stretch at Morton, St. Andrew’s, Mitchell (Tenn.) and Provine at the Rumble in the South tournament.
3. McComb (14-0) – Last week: 3
The Tigers remain undefeated after a 73-52 win vs. Natchez.
4. Meridian (16-3) – Last week: 4
The Wildcats enter this week coming off wins over Petal and Oak Grove. Meridian will have the chance to sweep the Panthers in the regular season when it travels to Petal on Jan. 13.
5. Brandon (16-1) – Last week: 5
Despite senior forward Leon McClendon suffering a broken leg during last Tuesday’s 71-51 win over Pearl, the Bulldogs handled adversity and defeated Petal at home three days later.
6. Greenville (16-3) – Last week: NR
The Hornets move into the rankings for the first time this season. Greenville handed No. 5 Brandon its sole loss in December and enters this week coming off an impressive 72-point win over Murrah and 52-point rout of O’Bannon.
7. Ridgeland (15-2) – Last week: 8
The Titans beat Canton and Kemper County last week to improve to 15-2.
8. Oxford (14-2) – Last week: 10
Oxford survived close games at Olive Branch and MRA last week to jump up two spots in the Super 10.
9. West Harrison (16-2) – Last week: NR
The Hurricanes pulled out a 48-46 win over Gulfport at last weekend’s Hoopsfest.
10. Starkville (11-3) – Last week: NR
The Yellowjackets defeated Tupelo, previously ranked No. 6, and have a tough road ahead to see if they’ll remain ranked after games vs. Columbus and Madison Central.

1. Olive Branch (18-1) – Last week: 1
The Conquistadors remain atop the girls Super 10 after downing Southaven 58-50 in their first district game. Olive Branch will face its biggest test of the season with a rematch of last year’s Class 6A championship game against No. 2 Horn Lake on Friday.
2. Horn Lake (14-0) – Last week: 2
The Eagles look to remain undefeated this week with upcoming games vs. Southaven and Olive Branch in district play. Horn Lake beat the Conquistadors four times last season and hopes to extend its win streak to five on Jan. 16.
3. Natchez (12-1) – Last week: 4
The Bulldogs are undefeated in district play with wins over Pearl River Central and Brookhaven. They’ll have a chance to sweep their district on Friday vs. Wingfield.
4. Pontotoc (18-0) – Last week: 5
The Warriors are the sole undefeated program in Class 4A and face No. 7 Itawamba AHS on Tuesday.
5. Terry (16-2) – Last week: 6
The Bulldogs dropped their district opener to Jim Hill and face Provine and Forest Hill this week.
6. Hattiesburg (12-1) – Last week: 7
Since its loss to Natchez in December, Hattiesburg rolled out wins over Gulfport, Wayne County and Hancock. The Tigers face 6A foe Harrison Central on Friday.
7. Itawamba AHS (14-2) – Last week: 9
The Indians are currently sitting on a 10-game win streak. They face Columbus on Tuesday,.
8. Harrison Central (17-3) – Last week: 10
After losing to Olive Branch in December, Harrison Central rattled off five-straight victories over Biloxi, Oak Grove, Pass Christian, Hancock and Gulfport. The Red Rebels will have a chance to sweep the Indians in regular season play tomorrow night.
9. Ripley (16-2) – Last week: NR
After losing to Velma Jackson, Ripley knocked down Columbus, Nettleton and Blue Mountain.
10. West Harrison (13-1) – Last week: NR
The Hurricanes opened up district play with a win and play Stone on Friday.
