Super 25 Game of the Day: No. 1 Oak Hill Academy vs. Carlisle

By

The Matchup: No. 1 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) vs. Carlisle High School (Martinsville, Va.) at Franklin County High School at 7 p.m.

Oak Hill players to watch: As you might expect, the nation’s top-ranked team is loaded with plenty of talent. Chief among the superstars is shooting guard Dwayne Bacon, a five-star Florida State signee who is ranked among the top-1o overall prospects in the Class of 2015, according to 247 Sports. The 6-foot-6, 190-pounder is an overpowering athlete with a knack for taking over games in the biggest moments. Point guard Terrence Phillips, a Missouri commit, is the Professor Xavier to Oak Hill’s X Men squad (think of Bacon as Wolverine), able to score a big bucket when needed but much more important as a facilitator, particularly in the interior. Ohio State signee Daniel Giddens can also be a massive handful on the inside when the 6-foot-10 center is up for the challenge.

Carlisle players to watch: Junior point guard Quentin Jackson is Carlisle’s standout danger man, a versatile ball handler who is equally adept and dissecting interior defenses on his own or spotting up along the arc for a deep three. His recruitment is still heating up, with Tennessee providing his first offer from a power conference in November.

What to expect: Oak Hill and Carlisle are taking top billing on the national marquee for the second time in fewer than 14 days, so both squads have a pretty good idea of what they’re up against. The top-ranked Warriors pulled away for an 18-point victory at home on Jan. 21, though that game was in a hostile Mouth of Wilson arena. The site may be different this time, but Carlisle will need even more heroics from Jackson if they hope to keep Oak Hill within striking distance late in the contest.
