Note: This is more of a future look at a game that is scheduled for Thursday, as there are actually no Super 25 matchups at all on Wednesday. There are plenty on Thursday, and this was one of the Thursday games we felt most compelling.
The Matchup: No. 17 Stevenson (Ill.) vs. Lake Forest at Lake Forest High School
Stevenson Player to watch: Senior Jalen Brunson, who may be as talented as any other point guard in the nation, is the straw that stirs the drink for Stevenson, which may be looking ahead to a massive game against top-ranked Findlay Prep at the Hoophall Classic.
Lake Forest Player to watch: Senior Evan Boudreaux, who is one of the most consistent and talented undersized power forwards from greater Chicagoland. Boudreaux scored 38 points in a recent victory against Notre Dame College Prep, and he has the size and talent to do that against even a team like Stevenson
What to Expect: Yes, this sets up as a perfect trap game, but it’s almost impossible not to like Brunson and his Stevenson teammates here. Perhaps the key aspect is Stevenson’s relative experience. No, after Brunson there isn’t a ton of top-tier college hoops talent on the roster. When you have a player like Brunson, you don’t need much else. The son of former NBA guard Rick Brunson, Jalen Brunson’s ball skills are also particularly well-suited for tearing apart the Notre Dame defensive front, so it’s hard to see past the Patriots.
