Allen (Texas) continued on its path toward a fourth consecutive state title with a 48-27 victory against Ryan (Denton) in a 6A-I quarterfinal on Saturday at AT&T Stadium.
Allen jumped to a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter, and while Ryan cut the margin to 41-27 with 6:38 remaining, the Eagles were in control of the game. The game was selected by readers of USA TODAY High School Sports as the Super 25 Game of the Week.
Allen (14-0) won its 57th consecutive game, the second-longest active win streak in the nation.
The Eagles play the Westlake-Atascocita winner will be at 2 p.m. ET Saturday in Waco in a state semifinal.
The Eagles got 209 yard rushing and a touchdown on 15 carries from Kirby Bennett and quarterback Mitchell Jonke had four touchdowns — three rushing, including a 39-yarder and one passing. Camden Harrison had two receptions for 43 yards, both for touchdowns.
Ryan had an opportunity to score a TD at the end of the first half and take the momentum in the locker room but the play was called back on a penalty. Instead, Ryan kicked a field goal and trailed 24-13.
Jonke then was responsible for all the points in the third quarter on a pair of TD runs to open the scoring and put Ryan on its heels. Ryan cut the lead to 41-27, but Bennett scored on an 11-yard run with 3:30 left to ice the victory.
Ryan QB Spencer Sanders posted 347 yards rushing with a touchdown and an interception.
