St. X-Trinity, Male-Manual rematches set for Class 6-A second round
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association dismantled the “Super District” before the 2015 football season, but the four former members will have a reunion of sorts Friday night.
In a pair of rematches from the regular season, St. Xavier will face Trinity and Male will meet Manual on Friday in the second round of the Class 6-A playoffs.
Trinity (10-1), No. 2 in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings, will face No. 5 St. Xavier (7-4) at 7:30 p.m. at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium. No. 1 Male (11-0) will host No. 18 Manual (9-2) at 7:30 p.m. The winners will meet in next week’s Class 6-A, Region Two final.

Trinity beat St. X 20-15 on Oct. 2 at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium as Jailen Reed rushed for 144 yards and three touchdowns – all in the first half. Trinity’s defense sealed the victory with three interceptions in the second half.
Male won 43-7 at Manual on Oct. 23 as Bulldogs quarterback Hayden Shelton passed for 186 yards and two touchdowns. Crimsons coach Oliver Lucas said Friday his team is looking forward to another chance at the Bulldogs.
“We’re not going to forfeit the game; we’re going to show up,” said Lucas, who has announced he will step down as Manual’s coach after the playoffs. “You’re talking about a great team. We have to play a perfect game in order to beat them. But, hey, we’ve yet to play our best game.”
