Dwayne Sutton had 21 points, six rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot to lead Manual High School to a 63-43 victory over Western on Wednesday in a second-round game of the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament at Valley.
Sutton had back-to-back dunks midway through the third quarter to give Manual a 42-21 lead.
“I think the first one was better because I had a full head of steam and it was one-handed,” said Sutton, a 6-foot-5 senior who has signed with North Carolina-Asheville. “I usually dunk with two hands, but I like the one-hand better. I think it was probably the best dunk of my career.”
After the second dunk Sutton was called for a technical foul for pulling himself up on the rim. Sutton was fouled on the play and said he was trying to avoid coming down on the defender.
Jake Chilton added 13 points for the Crimsons (14-2), who are No. 3 in the state in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings. Manual will face Bullitt East (11-4) in Friday’s 5:30 p.m. quarterfinal.
Terrell Howard scored 18 points to lead Western (6-6), which trailed 30-12 at halftime after committing 16 turnovers and shooting 25 percent (4 of 16).
