PUNTA GORDA – This one was over quickly.

Brennan Williams threw four touchdown passes in the first quarter, leading the Charlotte Tarpons to a 42-0 win against the Cape Coral Seahawks at Charlotte’s Wallace Keller Stadium.

The 8-0 Tarpons, 4-0 in District 6A-10, take on county rivals Port Charlotte at home next Friday for the district title.

Charlotte and Port Charlotte (5-3, 4-0) each wrapped up playoff spots Friday night, so their showdown will determine the 6A-10 champion. The winner gets home field in the first round of the playoffs, while the other will take to the road.

Simms had a career night in that first quarter, hitting all eight passes he threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns. Stantley Thomas hauled in a 67-yarder on the first play from scrimmage and a 31-yarder with just over a minute left in the quarter. In between, Jacob White had touchdown receptions of 1 and 26 yards.

“They tried to stack the box against us, so we just took advantage of it on the outside,” Simms said. “But that’s us every Friday night. You try to take away one thing, then we’re going to do the other.”

For the night, Simms completed 11 of 14 passes for 278 yards. Four of those went to Thomas, who had 153 yards and two scores.

“That’s just a good football team we played tonight,” Seahawks coach Larry Gary said. “That’s no secret there.

“We didn’t expect them to score that many times in the air.”

Maleek Williams had a 66-yard run for a touchdown and added a two-point conversion run as the Tarpons led 35-0 early in the second quarter.

Simms hit nine passes in a row before his first incompletion.

“We did what we wanted to do,” Tarpons coach Binky Waldrop said. “We came out fast, put the gas to the floorboard and didn’t look back.”

The Seahawks fell to 2-6, 1-4 in District 6A-10.

Cape Coral starting quarterback Maurice Flournoy was 3 of 8 for 64 yards and an interception. Hunter Bontrager came in and completed 9 of 15 passes for 70 yards with one interception.
