Trumansburg junior Dan Lapp headed a group of nine qualifiers for state-championship golf competition in Saturday’s concluding round of Section 4’s Medalist Tournament at Cornell University’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course.
Lapp backed Thursday’s opening 76 with a 6-over-par 77 for a 153-stroke total that was two clear of Windsor senior Nate Wrighter. Susquehanna Valley sophomore D.J. Griffiths qualified on a third-best 76-80 showing.
Six players in a field of 21 cracked 80, with Chenango Valley senior Zach Wyatt’s tidy 75 low on the day by two strokes.
The top nine form Section 4’s team for the May 31-June 1 intersectional championships back at Cornell.
Vestal junior Jared Reester scooped up the final spot by besting Hogan Bendert of Union-Endicott on the second playoff hole after the pair matched 165-stroke 36-hole totals.
Freshman Tim Buchek advanced on an 84-78 effort, making Windsor the lone school with two state-tourney representatives. He’ll be accompanied in states by fellow 9th-grader Tommy Davis of Seton Catholic Central (83-79).
