Don’t laugh, that headline really may be accurate.
As reported by both longtime Sacramento Bee sports reporter Joe Davidson and MaxPreps, Sacramento Kings superstar DeMarcus Cousins likes few things better than spending time at high school sporting events.
On Saturday, Cousins was sitting courtside at Sleep Train Arena for the Northern California Division 1 championship game between Woodcreek and San Ramon Valley (San Ramon eventually pulled out the victory, 49-45). It was suggested that Cousins may have been drawn to the face off to see Woodcreek freshman Jordan Brown, one of the nation’s top-rated first year varsity players who has a game molded on many of Cousins’ strengths.
Or maybe Cousins just really likes high school sports. Consider this football game that he attended in November:
Or this earlier prep hoops face off, which also featured Brown and Woodcreek:
In fact, the most telling of Cousins’ commitments to prep sports may be the length to which he went to help Sacramento High School, agreeing to buy new scoreboards for the financially strapped school.
All of this speaks to Cousins’ commitment to the sport and the community. And obviously it isn’t just basketball, as his attendance at high school football games shows. Then again, he was an outstanding high school wide receiver in Alabama, so perhaps that should be no surprise, either.
