There are few things that inspire like seeing young athletes succeed.
Through sports, they grow to understand dedication, what it means to lead, how to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat. In so many cases, the playing fields and gym floors are where they become men and women.
We at The Courier-Journal are fortunate to often get a front-row seat to watch the athletes in our communities grow and witness some of the best moments of their lives.
So it’s with great pride that we’re announcing The Courier-Journal Kentuckiana Sports Awards Program presented by Norton Sports Health.
Over the next nine months, The Courier-Journal and Norton Sports Health will honor the best athletes in Metro Louisville and Southern Indiana with our Athletes of the Week Awards and All-Area Teams for football, field hockey, cross country, golf, soccer, volleyball, basketball, swimming, wrestling, baseball, softball, tennis and track and field.
Best of all, the Athlete of the Week winners, including those already named this fall, and members of the All-Area Teams will be invited to a year-end banquet in June, where they’ll be treated to a red-carpet affair. There, they will be recognized as we name a Metro Louisville and Southern Indiana Athlete of the Year for each sport, an Overall Male and Female Athlete of the Year for each state, a Courage Award to an athlete who has overcome great adversity, and a Heart & Soul Award to someone who goes above and beyond to help make high school athletes successful.
We’ll even soon announce a celebrity speaker who will headline the event.
“From pee-wee to professional, Norton Sports Health and Kosair Children’s Hospital support and care for local athletes of all ages,” said Dana Allen, System VP and Chief Marketing Officer for Norton Healthcare. “Our region is home to some of the best and brightest high school athletes in the country, and it’s important to recognize them, their schools and their families for their hard work, dedication and community service. Norton is proud to sponsor the Courier-Journal Kentuckiana Sports Awards and to celebrate the achievements of these fine young men and women.”
Bands, cheer squads and fan will also be celebrated. We’ll showcase your videos of them and let you, the student-athletes and fans, vote on who has the best routines or most spirit.
We’re overjoyed when we get to witness these athletes’ achievements. Now it’s our turn to give them the recognition they deserve and an event to remember.
