The Harry Giles III Blog: Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina and Wake Forest visits, EYBL and more

Harry Giles III missed the entire 2013-14 season recovering from ACL, MCL and meniscus tears; since then he’s dominated the AAU scene, helped lead the USA U17 team to the gold medal in Dubai and turned in an even more dominant junior season at Wesleyan Christian Academy (High Point, N.C.). Giles, who is ranked No. 2 in the ESPN 60, is widely regarded as one of the country’s top players, regardless of class, with college basketball heavyweights like North Carolina, Kentucky and Duke, among many others, all giving chase. Giles has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.

What’s going on world! It’s your boy HG and I’m baaaaack!

I know I’ve been gone for a minute, but y’all know I’m gonna make up for it for y’all with some good stuff coming in my blog!

First off, I wanna say shout out to my team CP3 All Stars because we went 4-0 last session at EYBL in Houston. Overall we’re 11-1 so we’re definitely doing our thing.

I’d say the most fun matchup of the summer was the one against the Georgia Stars. Those are some big boys!

We actually lost that game, but it was a good one. They have a really big frontline, but we fought hard and I would definitely love to get another chance to play them. I feel like we were kinda feelin’ ourselves a little bit and you know in this game you should never get too high or too low.

The good thing is that we’ve learned from it and we’re better now.

I definitely think my AAU teammate Alterique Gilbert is the most slept on player this summer. He’s starting to blow up now, but he’s even better than what people know. I think he deserves way more credit than what he’s gotten.

He’s a strong point guard that can score, pass, defend and everything else. People were sleeping, but, trust me, he’s gonna keep waking ‘em up this summer.

I head out to USA Basketball Camp on June 12 and I’m definitely excited about that. I love competing against the best and since it’s a tryout everyone will definitely be bringing their “A” games!

On the recruiting side everything has been pretty steady.

I had two-in homes with Duke and Kentucky then UNC and Wake Forest came to my school; they all happened a couple weeks back.

The Duke in-home was really cool because they’re the champs! I was excited about them coming and it was definitely a 10 out of 10. They talked about winning the title and how they’d use me to get another one.

Of course y’all know that Duke got my boy Derryck Thornton, which was big! It’s crazy because he was in my grade now he’s moving up a year to play next season so I’ll definitely be watching to see how he adjusts. He’s really talented though, so I already know he’s gonna ball.

Coach Calipari talked about where he’d play me and how he’d develop me. He talked about all the players that he had enter the draft this year. It was definitely impressive. We talked about a lot of different stuff. Coach Cal is real cool; loved that visit!

The visit with Coach Williams was really cool too! He talked about how he would use me and where he saw me playing. He really laid it all out.

With Wake Forest, Coach Manning talked about how me coming there could change the whole city. It was almost like they’d make me the mayor of the city! I thought that whole presentation was cool and I like him because we’re about the same height and we played the same position. I definitely have a lot of respect for him because of that.

With my decision, I’ve always said I don’t think I’m gonna be one of those guys that waits until really late. Now I’m not saying I’ll decide this month or anything like that, but I could definitely see myself deciding before my senior season starts.

Y’all don’t understand, it’s a lot. You’ve constantly got people calling you and coaches calling you about recruiting. I think it would really help me focus on my senior year to have that out of the way.

As far as the package deal, it’s still alive. Me, Jay (Tatum) and Junior (Smith) have still been talking so it’s still an option. We’re gonna see what happens with it!

OK, let’s talk about stuff that has nothing to do with basketball; I need y’all to put me on to some new music! I need some new stuff to listen so y’all hit me up and tell me what’s hot. And make sure y’all keep the music young! No old stuff.

I’m finishing school strong! I’m waiting to get my scores back from my testing, but I’m feeling good about it!

OK, y’all that’s another blog down and, as always, I appreciate y’all checking me out and reading my blog!

Gotta come back next time because I’m gonna make it even bigger; a lot of interesting things are happening so stay tuned.

I’m out!
