Now Brown has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.
What’s up everybody this is Troy Brown and I’m back with my USA Today blog!
Much love to everyone who reads these, I really appreciate you hanging out with me a little.
Big news right now is that we made the Peach Jam!
It’s even bigger because this is our program’s (Las Vegas Prospects) first year and it’s cool to come out as a young team and play well against the older guys. Obviously, I had a lot of great players around me; all glory to God!
When I think back about the Nike EYBL regular season I’d have to say my best individual highlight was when I dunked on Zach Brown! That was a pretty good one.
As a team, I feel like our best win was the one we had against Houston Hoops because they were No. 1 in our Division at the time and they’d only lost one game. We had just lost by like 20 to Cal Supreme and no one expected us to win that game, but we got it done; ended up winning by about 10. That was big for us.
Now that we’re in Peach Jam I definitely feel like we can win it all. Anything is possible with this group that we have. We play hard and that’s what it usually comes down to.
This month I’m playing a lot with my high school team in some different tournaments so I’m looking forward to that. Our team is gonna be really strong next season; I feel like we have the talent to win states. I really believe that.
Recruitment has been pretty low key; I can’t talk to the coaches right now anyway, my dad handles that. June 15 is when the coaches can start hitting me up directly so I’m sure things will get crazy then.
I went to USA Camp to practice with the U16 team and that was cool.
I couldn’t play with them this year because I got out of school way too late and I would’ve missed too many practices, so I just went down there to workout with the team.
I had a good time and they’re definitely gonna have a talented team.
I was really impressed with Tre Jones. He was my roommate there and I had never really seen him play before, but he’s really good. He was actually at Duke when I went for my unofficial and Coach K mentioned him and I knew he was Tyus Jones’ brother, but I didn’t know him like that. He can hoop though.
My teammate Markus Howard did his thing down there too. He’s known as a scorer, but he really stepped it up as a facilitator on that team.
I’m excited about going to the Nike Basketball Academy in L.A. later this month and then after Peach Jam I’ll be heading to the Nike Global Challenge, so that’ll be fun.
OK, I’m out of school now!
The best part about being out of school is that I can focus solely on getting better in basketball. I do double workouts and I know people always talk about this being the time where you work the hardest, but I can really see my game growing.
I think the biggest thing that’s improved is my jump shot. I’ve been working on it so much! That’s the biggest thing that people criticized about my game and it’s something that I took to heart and really put in the work to get better at and it’s definitely a lot better. Then defensively I feel like I’ve gotten better. I averaged 1.6 steals a game in the EYBL so I’m proud of that!
I’m telling y’all right now the Cavs are gonna win the NBA Finals. No question. I’ve got them winning in six. Remember where you heard it first!
OK people I’m gonna get going, but, like I said earlier, I really do appreciate you guys taking the time to read my blog. I appreciate the love.
I’ll be back soon to hit you guys with another blog so stay tuned.
