This week's high school basketball Fab 15


This week’s Fab 15, a weekly ranking of the top high school basketball teams in the area:

1.North Central (15-3) – The Panthers smashed Pike 87-71 last Thursday and goes into Friday’s home game against Center Grove needing a win to clinch a share of the MIC title. North Central also has a tough home game Saturday against state-ranked Fort Wayne Carroll.

2.Southport (19-2) – Before hosting 4A top-ranked Evansville Reitz (21-0) on Saturday, a very good Terre Haute South (15-5) team visits Southport on Friday. The Cardinals are riding a seven-game winning streak.

3.Carmel (17-2) – Carmel can claim a share of the MIC title with a home win over Warren Central on Friday. Warsaw (17-3) visits Carmel on Saturday.

4.Lawrence North (15-4) – Lawrence North visits Pike on Friday, part of a tough three-game closing stretch that also includes Howe and Hamilton Southeastern next week.

5.Park Tudor (16-2) – The Panthers demolished Lutheran 66-38 on Tuesday and goes to Bishop Chatard on Friday.

6.Howe (17-2) – The Hornets upended Herron 80-67 on Friday and travel to 6-13 Marshall this Friday.

7.Zionsville (17-4) – The Eagles put their 10-game winning streak on the line this weekend at Fishers (Friday) and Tech (Saturday).

8.Scecina (16-5) – The Crusaders rebounded from a loss to Park Tudor with a 56-33 win over Irvington. Scecina hosts Broad Ripple on Saturday.

9.Brownsburg (17-5) – Brownsburg has won four in a row and hosts Hamilton Southeastern on Friday.

10.Ben Davis (15-6) – The Giants are coming off a 71-58 win over Terre Haute South on Saturday and will host Cathedral on Friday.

11.Pike (13-8) – Pike defeated Hamilton Southeastern 63-57 on Tuesday, just its third win in its last nine games. The Red Devils host Lawrence North on Friday.

12.Warren Central (10-8) – The Warriors notched a 56-55 win over Richmond on Tuesday, ending Richmond’s 17-game winning streak. Warren is at Carmel on Friday.

13.Tech (13-7) – Tech has won three in a row going into Saturday’s game at Zionsville.

14.Cathedral (11-7) – The Irish are 6-0 since Eron Gordon started playing. Cathedral is at Ben Davis on Friday and hosts Detroit Romulus on Saturday.

15.Lawrence Central (9-12) – The Bears’ record doesn’t look great but keep in mind they started 1-9. Have won four in a row after an overtime win Tuesday over Noblesville.

Dropped out: Mooresville (12), Pendleton Heights (13), Crispus Attucks (15).
