Boys basketball: Loyal at Columbus Catholic, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday: The Dons made quite a statement in winning the Cranberry Classic last weekend in Wisconsin Rapids. Columbus was one of several teams around the state to break 100 points, beating University School 101-85 Friday and outlasting Assumption 54-51 to win the tourney title. Evan Nikolai and Hunter Schultz were named to the all-tournament team and the team is riding a wave of momentum heading into their Cloverbelt opener at home vs. Loyal.
Wrestling: Marshfield at Wausau West, 7 p.m. Thursday: The Tigers finished tied for third in the Wisconsin Valley Conference under first-year coach Jackson Hein. Josh Lang, fourth at 195 last year, is Marshfield’s only returning state qualifier. The Tigers edged Everest by half a point in the WVC tournament, but Everest won the dual meet.
Boys basketball: Auburndale at Athens, 7:30 p.m. Thursday: A state qualifier a year ago, Auburndale takes to the road in a nonconference game against the Bluejays.Auburndale doesn’t play at home until Dec. 15 when the team hosts Stratford in a Marawood Conference South Division game. Auburndale will have to contend with the loss of seven seniors to graduation, including standouts Matt Nikolay and Josh VanSchoick.
