Girls basketball: Marathon at Assumption, 7:15 p.m., Tuesday—The first season matchup between two teams are coming off WIAA state girls basketball tournament appearances. Marathon captured the Marawood Conference South Division title last season, ending Assumption’s two-year reign atop the conference. Marathon swept Assumption in two regular-season games last year and both teams enter the matchup with a 1-1 records after holiday tournament play this past weekend.
Boys basketball: Marathon at Mosinee, 7:30 p.m., Tuesday— A solid nonconference matchup between two of the top teams from the Marawood South and Great Northern Conferences. Mosinee returns three starters from last year’s team that finished with a 19-7 record; Jordan Budnik, Ben Fochs and Jared Novitzke. Marathon won 23 straight games last year and went undefeated in the Marawood South. Xavier Lechleitner and Preston Wirkus both earned all-Marawood honors for the Raiders last year.
Girls basketball: Edgar at Prentice, 7:15 p.m., Friday— The teams predicted to be contenders for the title in the Marawood Conference North Division this winter square off in an early-season showdown. Edgar, which enters the week with a 1-1 record, finished tied with Abbotsford for second place in the conference last season and returns two first-team all-Marawood selections in Macey Wirkus and Tiana Borchardt. Prentice finished third in the Marawood North last year and is coming off a loss to Thorp in the season opener.
