CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For the third consecutive game, Word of God Christian Academy (Raleigh, N.C.) will take to the hardwood minus five-star guard Rawle Alkins.

Alkins is nursing the sprained ankle he suffered in the Holy Rams’ loss to The Burlington School (Burlington, N.C.) on Nov. 29.

“I’m a competitor so I hate sitting,” said Alkins, who is ranked No. 15 overall in the ESPN 100. “But I’m definitely glad that my guys are getting better and shining.”

Word of God face Paul VI (Fairfax, Va.) on Saturday night in the Southeast National Hoops Festival.

The Holy Rams have gone 1-1 in Alkins’ absence.

Jaylen Fornes, a UNC Wilmington signee, scored 50 points in Word of God’s 102-49 win against the Australian National team on Dec. 3.

“I was his biggest cheerleader in that game,” Alkins said of Fornes. “That’s what I can do. I just kept telling him to keep shooting; he was on fire. That makes it better to see guys like him shine. But I’ll be back for our next game.”
