Omari Spellman, a 6-8 junior post player from the MacDuffie School in Springfield, Mass., honored his mother’s birthday by announcing his commitment to Villanova on Twitter.
Spellman is ranked No. 17 overall in the ESPN 60 and is considered the No. 5 center in the class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Spellman was said to be considering Ohio State, given that he is originally from the state before transferring. UCLA also one on his finalists. He expressed interest in Kentucky, partly because coach John Calipari’s son, Brad, is a teammate at MacDuffie.
Last season, Spellman averaged 22 points and 9.8 rebounds per game for North Royalton in Ohio.
He is the first commit for the Class of 2016 for Jay Wright at Villanova.
