Here’s a quick look at the top boys basketball games to watch in Southern Indiana this week:
Providence at Austin: The Pioneers opened with a 62-28 victory over Indianapolis Metropolitan as Griffin Libs scored 21 points, but Friday’s road test will be a different challenge. The Eagles are already 2-0 with wins over Crothersville (74-51) and rival Scottsburg (67-64 in overtime).
Trevor McIntosh is averaging 21 points per game and Matt Johnson scored 28 in the victory over Scottsburg.
Borden at Lanesville: Both teams are 2-0 in an early battle for the Southern Conference lead.
Nathan Bachman is averaging 20.5 points while Julien Magallanes is contributing 14.0 for the Braves, who have conquered Eastern Pekin (57-35) and Shoals (63-38) in their first two outings.
Lanesville crushed Cannelton 80-30 in its debut before clipping Corydon 67-56. Borden has won seven straight in the series.
Evansville Harrison at New Albany: The Bulldogs, 1-0 and newly minted as the No. 1 team in Indiana, will put that ranking on the line against the Warriors (1-0) on Saturday night.
New Albany opened with a tough 72-68 road win at Bloomington South as Isaac Hibbard scored 24 points and sophomore star Romeo Langford added 18 before fouling out. New Albany coach Jim Shannon will be looking for a better defensive effort.
The Bulldogs won last year’s game 78-68 as Langford exploded for 33 points.
