On the eve of National Signing Day Minkah Fitzpatrick, the superstar defensive back recruit from St. Peter’s Prep in New Jersey, ended a long-running flirtation with Florida State without any satisfaction for the Seminoles, reaffirming his commitment to Alabama and signing his national letter of intent to be faxed in to the Alabama offices on Wednesday morning.
After letting rumors of a potential switch from Tuscaloosa to Tallahassee fester for days, Fitzpatrick wasted no time during the St. Peter’s Prep football signing ceremony on Tuesday to make his future clear.
The reaffirmation of Fitzpatrick’s pledge is another lift for an Alabama recruiting class that projects to be the best in the nation yet again. Fitzpatrick is a consensus five-star recruit, and has explosive speed and athleticism for his 6-foot-1, 190-pound frame. He committed to Alabama in April and never officially wavered from that pledge.
However, an official visit to Tallahassee to take in the Florida State experience was termed, “an eye opener,” which led to speculation that the Seminoles could “flip” his commitment late in the game.
Evidently that was never going to happen, leaving Florida State with an impressive recruiting class, but one that won’t be adding one more five-star defensive back.
