Isaac Nauta, the No. 1 tight end recruit in the 2016 class according to 247Sports.com’s composite ranking, is backing away from his commitment to Florida State, which he made in December.
Nauta, who played last year for Buford, Ga., is playing this year at IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.). The 6-4, 230-pound senior was one of the standouts this month at Nike’s The Opening. On Tuesday, he decommited to the Noles via a Tweet:
Nauta’s decommitment comes two days after taking unofficial visits to TCU, Texas, and LSU in the last week, his father told Gannett partner The Tallahassee Democrat. Nauta also visited Georgia and FSU this month.
He wishes to take all five official visits before picking a final school, and intended to early into school early when committed to FSU.
“Even though he feels like he committed with a purpose, now he wants to exhaust all of his options,” Jay Nauta said. “I think he feels like he doesn’t need to be committed to anybody to really get a good feel of where he’s at.”
