Travelers Rest’s Victoria Huskey fired a 4-under par 72 to tie South Pointe’s Jodee Tindal for the Class AAA Upper State championship Monday at Village Greens Golf Club in Gramling.
Daniel won the Upper State title, emerging from a competition in which the top three teams were separated by two strokes. The Lions finished with a team score of 331.
Huskey, the defending state champion, led TR to a runner-up finish with 332. Wren was third with 333 annd Pickens fourth with 348.
The others teams that qualified for state were South Pointe (348), Walhalla (370), Eastside (388) and A.C. Flora (403).
The Class AAA state tournament is scheduled for Oct. 26-27 at Barony Golf Club on Hilton Head Island.
- • Mauldin’s Emily Dunlap shot par 72 to win the Class AAAA Upper State championship Monday at Fox Run Country Club in Simpsonville.
Dunlap was two shots better than teammate Ashley Czarnecki and Boiling Springs’ Anna Chanthaphaeng. Easley’s Savannah Goodman was tied for fourth at 75, and the Green Wave’s Kerrington Lamb was sixth at 76.
Hillcrest’s Mikala Duncan was one of three individual qualifiers.
Dorman won the team championship with a score of 327. Mauldin and Boiling Springs tied for second at 334, followed by Easley at 338.
The other qualifiers were Greenville (346), Spartanburg (365), Blythewood (376) and T.L. Hanna (378).
The Class AAAA state tournament is scheduled for Oct. 26-27 at the Country Club of Lexington.
- St. Joseph’s is second and Powdersville third after the first day of the Class AA girls golf state tournament at Black Bear Golf Club in Longs.
Bishop England leads the competition after 18 holes with 348. St. Joseph’s has 364, Powdersville 367, Aynor 391 and defending champion McBee 398.
Bishop England’s Kathleen Sumner, the state runner-up a year ago, shot an even-par 72 to lead by 3 strokes over Carly Lyvers of St. Joseph’s and Peyton Gillespie of Christ Church.
The tournament is scheduled to conclude with 18 holes Tuesday.
