At the Northern Counties championships at Arlington High School in Freedom Plains Saturday, the Beacon boys track and field team finished first with 151 points.
Rayvon Grey won three events — the 200-meter dash (22.62), the long jump (22-08) and the triple jump (45-1 ¼). Beacon’s David Adams won the 110 hurdles (14.96).
Arlington finished second with 132 points. James Asselmeyer won the 800 run (1:55.60) and the 1,600 run (4:28.25). He also teamed with Devere Knight, Reece Ragusa and Joe Morrison to win the 1,600 relay (3:30.94). Connor Stack won the 3,200 run (9:44.73).
John Jay (third place, 85.33 points) saw winners in Aaron Hamilton (100 dash, 11.27), Jake Anderson (javelin, 142-3), and the 400 relay of Hamilton, Lance Adams, Elliot Lawrence, Nate Diedrick (44.69).
Matt Whitworth won the 3,000 steeplechase (10:28.94) for Pawling, which placed fifth (49.33 points). Paul Bellucci (pole vault, 10.06) also won for the Tigers.
John Andersen won two events for Roy C. Ketcham, which placed seventh (28 points). He took the shot put (47-2 ¾) and the discus throw (158-1).
Stephen Grunbok won the 400 (51.11) for Our Lady of Lourdes, which placed ninth (21 points).
New Paltz wins MHAL title – Lorenzo Mazzuca was a triple-winner as New Paltz won the Mid-Hudson Athletic League title at Franklin D. Roosevelt in Hyde Park.
Mazzuca placed first in the 800 run (1:59.71), 1,600 run (4:33.78) and 3,000 steeplechase (10:11.63).
New Paltz’s Franco Julia-Wise won the shot put (48-5) and discus (146-7 ½). New Paltz’s 3,200 relay won in 8:22.11.
Poughkeepsie’s Jovan Atkinson and Highand’s Storm Malone each won two events. Atkinson placed first in the 100 dash (10.99) and 200 dash (22.53). Malone won the 110 high hurdles (14.70) and 400 intermediate hurdles (58.00).
Other local champions were Roosevelt’s Garrett Burnett (3,200 run, 9:52.33), Pine Plains’ Dylan Lawless (high jump, 6-0) and Red Hook’s Tim Kiluba (long jump, 21-2 ½). The Roosevelt 400 relay won in 44.77. As a team, Roosevelt placed second.
Girls track and field
Bella Burda won two events for Arlington at the Northern Counties championships in Freedom Plains. Burda won the 1,500 run (4:45.34) and 3,000 run (10:54.15). She teamed up with Christina Prater-Lee, Amanda Fastiggi and Megan Latuso to win the 3,200 relay. Naomi Salazar won the 100 meter (13.04) and Allie Coon took the 400 (1:01.40) for the Admirals, who took first place in the team scoring with 208 points.
Arlington saw additional champions in Kylie McFall (800, 2:22.88), Annie Geiger (400 hurdles, 1:10.22) and Fastiggi (2,000 steeplechase, 7:31.34).
John Jay placed second with 135 points. Khiara Young won the 200 meter (26.36) and teamed with Sam Mosca, Erin Theiller and Allie Gusmano to take the 1,600 relay (4:05.40). Deanna Newman (pole vault, 8-6; javelin throw, 99-9) and Ephiphanie Reddick (shot put, 32-4) also won for the Patriots.
Roy C. Ketcham placed fourth (54 points) and received a win from Riva Scheck (100 hurdles, 16.49). She partnered with Danielle Dakin, Oreoluwa Odeniyi and Amani Arthur to win the 1,400 relay (52.78).
Paige Baisley won the 800 outdoor pentathlon (2:37.76) and the high jump (1.52) for Beacon, which placed sixth with 36 points.
Abbey Stowell won the 100 hurdles for Haldane, which placed fifth with 39 points.
Locals win MHAL titles – Dover’s Megan Wood won the 400 intermediate hurdles in 1:09.24 and the Dragons’ 400 relay also prevailed in 51.49 at the MHAL championships in Hyde Park. Rondout Valley won the girls team title
Other local winners were Rhinebeck’s Stephanie Cassens (200 dash, 26.59) and New Paltz’s Morganne Kuyl (100 high hurdles, 16.81), Jessica Cohen (2,000 steeplechase, 7:55.48) and Samantha Kaplan (pole vault, 10-6).
