Fans voted Trinity swimmer Jack Kitchin the winner of The Courier-Journal Metro Louisville Athlete of the Week Award presented by Norton Sports Health. The senior won the 50-yard breaststroke at Saturday’s Patton Invitational at Fort Knox with a meet-record time of 30.67 seconds.

Last week’s other nominees included Male football quarterback Hayden Shelton, Alexis Nelson of St. Francis basketball and Caleb Williams of Eastern basketball.

Shelton completed 15 of 27 passes for 341 yards and four touchdowns as the Bulldogs beat Lafayette 41-14 in the Class 6-A championship game. Nelson scored a Jefferson County-record 58 points and added 10 rebounds in a 61-45 victory over Piarist in the St. Patrick Classic. Williams posted 22 points and six rebounds to lead the host Eagles to a 65-53 victory over Central.

Each Monday afternoon, four new athletes will be posted here as nominees for the Athlete of the Week Award. Voting runs through 8 p.m. Sunday. The winners will be invited to the year-end Courier-Journal Courier-Journal Kentuckiana Sports Awards Program banquet presented by Norton Sports Health.
