The University of Louisville football team has a new hometown recruiting target.
Trinity High School junior cornerback/wide receiver Rodjay Burns received his first scholarship offer from the Cardinals on Friday and is thought to be the only Louisvillian in the 2015, ’16 or ’17 classes with a U of L offer.
The 6-foot-2, 175-pound Burns could probably play on either side of the ball in college. He had team highs with 47 receptions for 718 yards and seven touchdowns this season for the Class 6-A state champions. He also made 32 tackles, four interceptions and nine pass breakups. Burns also returned a punt for a TD and averaged 14.3 yards per return.
He’s the second in-state junior to receive an offer from Louisville this week, following McCracken County receiver Zy’Aire Hughes, who’s committed to Kentucky.
U of L has also made 2017 offers this week to Lafayette quarterback Walker Wood and offensive lineman Jedrick Willis (6-5, 300).
