With the custom logos used on receivers’ gloves everywhere these days, a whole new method of committing or just communicating with coaches has emerged. That’s exactly what happened in Florida, where Coconut Creek star wide receiver recruit Binjimen Victor showed up for his team’s season opener flashing some top-notch Zone 6 gloves celebrating Ohio State.
Scout.com’s Chad Simmons caught Victor showing off the gloves while warming up before Coconut Creek’s victory against Marist. There’s no question that the palms out gesture was as intentional as it gets. And that begs an interesting question: Does wearing a school’s gloves in a game now constitute a latter day soft pledge to that school?
There’s no definite playbook for such a move. Torrance Gibson famously tipped off eagle-eyed onlookers to his future college destination with a pair of Ohio State cleats.
Did Victor just do the same thing, to the same school? Don’t bet against it, but tune in next week to see if his gloves are still sporting the Big “O” or some other sublimated logo.
