BOISE — Two Treasure Valley rugby clubs are making waves, breaking into a prestigious top 50 list for high school rugby clubs
According to the Goff Rugby Report, Capital came in at No. 45, while defending state champion Mountain View came in at No. 47.
Capital head coach Matt Jacobsen hadn’t yet heard about breaking the top 50, but he wasn’t surprised.
“At one point a few years ago, we were number five,” Jacobsen said. “Then we were number 12. It’s nice to break the top 50 again.”
“We dropped off for a while because we didn’t have very many good players, so we started fresh.”
Over spring break, the Eagles traveled to California to face former No. 1 Sacramento Jesuit. “Though it wasn’t their starting team, we still beat them by 50 points,” Jacobsen said.
The team then came home to face Olympus (UT), a top 15 team, where the Eagles lead Olympus until the very end, coming back to tie.
Capital will have their biggest in-state test later this month when they face No. 47 Mountain View.
“We are going to have to be physical, move the ball well and control our penalties.”
Capital and Mountain View face off April 25th at 11 a.m. at Eagle Middle School.
