Two-out magic in the bottom of the seventh inning gave the Howell High School baseball team a dramatic win Monday over Freehold Township in a Shore Conference Class A North game.
Justin Steel’s RBI single capped a three-run rally with two out in the seventh as the Rebels, ranked No. 10 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10, defeated the Patriotss, 4-3. It was Steel’s third hit of the game.
Connor Fey, who had three hits, plated the first run of the inning with a single. Rob Napolitano’s RBI single tied the game.
Austin Kroeger pitched a complete-game five-hitter to pick up his second win.
Central 3, Pinelands 2: Starting pitcher Jake Dominguez’s two-out, bases-loaded single in the bottom of the ninth drove in Matt Aires with the winning run as the Golden Eagles (3-1, 2-1) defeated the Wildcats (3-2, 2-1) in a Class B South game.
Senior Anthony Arneth picked up the win by pitching 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. He struck out three, walked two and allowed one hit.
Dominguez struck out seven, walked two, hit two and allowed two unearned runs on three hits 5 1/3 innings.
Barnegat 4, Donovan Catholic 2: Senior Nik Fraim’s three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth gave the Bengals (3-2, 3-1) the win over the Griffins (2-1, 1-1) in a Class B South game.
Collin O’Connor led off the bottom of the eighth with a single and winning pitcher Jared Kasco then walked to set the stage for Fraim.
Mike Marron’s triple drove in Matt Drake in the top of the eighth to give Donovan Catholic a 2-1 lead.
Jackson Memorial 13, Brick 2: Matt Castronouva had a sacrifice fly and an RBI single, Rich Rountree a two-run double and Joe DeMaio Nick Rocco and Kyle Johnson all had run-scoring singles in a nine-run first as the Jaguars (2-4, 2-3) defeated the No. 7 Green Dragons (4-2, 3-2) in a Class A South game.
Johnson added a two-run double and Kyle Lona a run-scoring single in the second when Jackson Memorial scored four more runs..
Johnson scored three runs, in addition to the three RBI and two hits. Castronouva was 2-for-2. DeMaio was 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Nick Rocco was 2-for-2 and scored two runs and Lona was 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
Castrounova was also the winning pitcher in relief.
Midd. South 4, Manalapan 1: Johnny Zega allowed allowed just an unearned run in the top of the first and the Eagles (2-4, 2-3) scored all their runs with two out as they defeated the No. 10 Braves (4-3, 1-3) in a Class A North game.
Nolan Peerless had a two-run single in the second and an RBI single in the sixth.
Zach Schild had an RBI single in the sixth.
TR South 7, Brick Memorial 2: Sophomore left-hander Justin Fall scattered four hits, struck out five and walked none to pick up his first varsity win in his first varsity start and senior right-hander Ray Ligouri did not allow an earned run over the final two innings and had a two-run single in a seven-run fifth as the No. 6 Indians (4-1, 4-1) defeated the Mustangs (3-6, 0-4) in a Class A South game.
Liguori has not allowed an earned run his last 18 scholastic innings, dating back to last season. He struck out four, walked none and allowed one hit.
TR North 11, TR East 1: Ryan Larsen struck out nine, walked none and fired a complete-game one-hitter, Jeff Ciervo scored three runs and Brandon Fischer and Owen Sulftain each scored two and Sulfrain had two hits as the No. 1 Mariners (5-1, 5-0) defeated the Raiders (2-2, 2-2) in a Class A South game.
Southern 3, Lacey 1: Zach Mason struck out 10 and allowed three hits over the first 5 2/3 innings, Nick Simone got out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth with a fly out and Ronnie Velardi had a two-out, two-run triple and Mike Lee a run-scoring single in the third as the Rams (1-5, 1-4) defeated the Lions (3-3, 2-3) in a Class A South game.
Colts Neck 6, Freehold 4: The No. 4 Cougars (6-0) rallied for five runs over the final two innings, including three in the top of the seventh as they defeated the Colonials (3-4) in a nondivisional game.
Andrew Conforti had two RBI for Colts Neck.
Holmdel 2, Long Branch 1: Junior Tyler Fischer threw two innings to pick up the save and also had an RBI and freshman Sal Monticciolo threw two scoreless innings to pick up the win as the Hornets (1-3) defeated the Green Wave (1-5) in a nondivisional game.
Lakewood 7, Manchester 6: Joel Hernandez went 3-for-3 with four RBI, Raymond Alvarez had a two-run single in the fifth, when the Piners (2-3, 1-3) took the lead and senior Hector Alvarez pitched out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth and then hurled two perfect innings after that as Lakewood defeated the Hawks (2-2, 2-2) in a Class B South game.
Point Boro 11, Jackson Liberty 7: John Youmans went 3-for-3 and scored four runs and Samuel Monaco went 3-for-5 with an RBI and scored two runs as the Panthers (2-4, 1-3) defeated the Lions (2-3, 2-2) in a Class B South game.
St. Rose 5, Keyport 2: Travis Cloney scattered eight hits, struck out five, walked two over the first six innings, Brendan Hueth was 2-for-3 with a double and scored two runs and Mike Gowen went 2-for-4, scored two runs and stole a base and Joe Volpe had two RBI as the Purple Roses (2-3, 1-1) defeated the Red Raiders (2-3, 2-3) in a Class B Central game.
Mater Dei Prep 12, Henry Hudson 2: Junior Matt Paciulli struck out seven, walked three and allowed four hits in a five-inning complete game to pick up the win in his first varsity start, Cole Hardy was 2-for-2 with a double, scored three runs and drove in two and Kyle Dowen went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and three RBI as the Seraphs (3-1, 3-0) defeated the Admirals (0-3, 0-3) in a Class B Central game.
Keansburg 13, Asbury Park 0: Ian Terry tripled and had four RBI and Tyrell Wilson homered and had three RBI as the Titans (3-1, 3-1) defeated the Blue Bishops (0-2, 0-2) in a Class B Central game.
Raritan 14, Academy Charter 2: Jon Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with two RBI and scored two runs, John Guccione went 2-for-3 with two RBI and freshman Zack Johnson struck out seven and allowed two runs on two hits in five innings to pick up his first varsity win as the Rockets (4-1) defeated the Panthers.
Point Beach 12, Ranney 0: Mike Fraunheim went 3-for-4 with an RBI and scored two runs and John VanSchoick struck out four over the first two innings and also had an RBI single as the Garnet Gulls (4-0, 4-0) defeated the Panthers (0-3, 0-3) in a Class B Central game.
