Auburn football conducted its Junior Day last weekend, but two of the attendess were more like junior high.
Tyler Murray from Carrollton, Ga., and Owen Pappoe from Grayson, Ga., are both in eighth grade but attended with players as much as four years older than they are, according to youth1.com football. Pappoe also took part in Junior Day at Tennessee, his second visit to the Knoxville campus.
Murray is 6-3 and 275 pounds at age 14 and attended through a relationship that Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has with Murray’s high school coach. Murray said he spent most of his time with Muschamp and the line coaches on both sides of the ball.
“I stated the day by sitting in on the D-Line meeting which was really cool,” Murray told youth1.com. “Then we went out to watch practice, toured the weight room, went to the stadium, went into the lock room, watched a team highlight film and ended the day by meeting with the head academic coach.”
Here are Murray’s eighth-grade highlights:
Pappoe is nicknamed “The Freak” and is 6-1 and 194 pounds. He also has been hand-timed at 4.61 in the 40-yard dash, according to youth1. He is listed as an athlete in recruiting parlance and could potentially play linebacker.
Pappoe also is planning to attend Georgia Junior Day and the Ohio State spring game.
