Tye Lawson has been named the new football coach at Bullitt Central. He replaces Dan Leasor, who retired after leading the Cougars the past eight seasons.
Lawson, 28, is a 2005 graduate of Waggener and later was a walk-on baseball player at Western Kentucky. He spent four years (2010-13) as an assistant coach at Male before serving as Bullitt Central’s offensive coordinator last season.
Bullitt Central finished 9-3 last season and averaged 34.4 points per game but will lose 14 seniors to graduation, including running back Trevor Carnell and receiver D.J. Dennison. Quarterback Cameron Dukes will return.
“We have some huge shoes to fill, but we also return a quarterback who broke the school record for passing yards and touchdowns,” Lawson said. “We’re going to make him the general manager of the offense.”
