Uline, Vahos garner All-American Highest HM honors

By

Suffern senior Sam Uline and Haldane senior Kelly Vahos were among the 150 high school players in the country to receive All-American Highest Honorable Mention honors by PrepVolleyball.com, the site announced on Feb. 4. Both players were this year’s Journal News Rockland and Westchester/Putnam players of the year, respectively.

Uline, a 5-foot-11 outside hitter, led Suffern to its first state championship in program history and the first-ever Class AA state title for a Section 1 school. The senior Mountie is committed to the University of New Orleans, where she will switch gears and hit the court as a defensive specialist.

Vahos, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker, led Haldane to the state finals for the fifth consecutive year — the fourth of her tenure with the Blue Devils. A regular at the state semifinals, Vahos played more games at the Glens Falls Civic Center (38) than any player in Section 1 history. A winner of two Class D state championships, Vahos is committed to James Madison University.
