The path to Waco High in Texas is getting worn out by recruiters hoping to see and potentially sign cornerback Eric Cuffee.
Ranked as the No. 9 corner in the nation and No. 110 by ESPN, Cuffee has 35 offers, including all the major schools in Texas, much of the Big 12 and Notre Dame.
But the path to Waco on Wednesday wasn’t filled with recruiters. It was the Under Armour All-America Game Selection Tour presented by American Family Insurance that came to town. The Under Armour game is Jan. 2 in Orlando.
Cuffee received his honorary jersey in a ceremony attended by his family, coaches and many others at the school.
“I’m still in shock,” Cuffee said. “I’m getting to play in a game that was my childhood dream, and now I’m participating in it. I still can remember watching Julio Jones playing in it, and now I’ll be out there in the same uniform, playing in the same game as those great players that were in it in the past. I’m still speechless.”
For Cuffee, one of the team’s senior leaders, the goal is to inspire as he nears the final games of his outstanding prep career.
“My dreams on the football field is to be the best player on the field and show the younger kids that it’s possible to be the greatest,” he said.
Cuffee is planning for his visits after the season although he has taken unofficial visits to Texas A&M and Texas.
