The Palm Desert High School wrestling team had seven wrestlers place on Saturday at the Laguna Hills Tournament.
Anthony Mantanona led the way for the Aztecs by winning the 152-pound division.
Also for Palm Desert, Chase Overgaag (106) and Reece Galvan (113) both finished third. Kade Brock (145) took fourth. Bennett Weaver (132) and Gabe Herrera (285) each finished seventh, while Evan Cowan (126) came in eighth.
The Aztecs host La Quinta at 6 p.m. Thursday in a match to determine the Desert Valley League title.
Mills takes first for Indians: Palm Springs High School junior Rylan Mills went 5-0 and won the 285-pound division Saturday at the Montclair Invitational wrestling meet.
Also for the Indians, Alec Merrill went 3-2 and finished seventh at 152 pounds.
Palm Springs wrestles Thursday at Cathedral City.
Chaffey 67, COD 65: Jordan Pellum scored 18 points and Anthony Fellum contributed 16, but it wasn’t enough for College of the Desert’s men’s basketball team to pull past Chaffey.
Mark Johnson added 13 points for COD, which fell to 10-10 on the year. The Roadrunners are 2-2 in the Foothill Conference.
COD plays next at Rio Hondo on Wednesday.
La Quinta’s Ferrara places: La Quinta’s Julie Ferrara placed seventh at the all-girls El Monte’s Rumble in the Jungle in the 170-pound class.
Ferrara had a record of 3-2 for the tournament.

Oregon Lumberjacks 13, Palm Springs Chill 2: Center fielder Tillman Pugh hit a three-run homer during seven-run sixth inning to power the Lumberjacks (1-1) over the Chill (1-2). He finished 3 for 5 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Coachella Valley Snowbirds 2, Toronto Rush 0: Snowbirds (1-2) pitchers Ryan Bunger and Charlie Glenn combined for a one-hit shutout of the Toronto Rush (2-1). RBI singles by Alan Cheatham and Sean Washington accounted for the only two runs of the game. Zach Wendorf took the hard-luck loss for the Rush, allowing two runs through 42/3 innings.
British Columbia Bombers 6, Alberta Grizzly 4: Joseph Zrinzo pitched the first complete game of the season to lead the Bombers (2-1). The righty allowed four runs — two earned — on five hits and a walk to go along with six strikeouts. Michael Hur drove in the winning run with an RBI double.
Palm Springs Power 9, Canada A’s 8: The A’s built a 7-0 lead through two innings before the Power battled back, eventually scoring three runs in the sixth to take a 9-7 lead with the benefit of three wild pitches by A’s pitcher Garrett Bolt. The Power are in sole possession of first.
