The Shadow Hills High School baseball team edged past Xavier Prep on Tuesday in the second day of the CV Rotary Tournament, picking up a 5-4 victory.

Starter Alex Lopez pitched six innings and got the win striking out six and allowing one earned run. Kyle Moe pitched the final inning for a save. Sean Roby had two hits, including a double and an RBI. Alex Bejjani had a double, an RBI and scored twice. Barrett Gonzalez added a double and an RBI and Jake Lopez also knocked in a run.

The Knights (7-6, 2-0) continue CV Rotary Tournament play at 11 a.m. Wednesday at La Quinta. Xavier Prep hosts Royal, also at 11 a.m. on Wednesday.

COD baseball

COD 12, Cerro Coso 10: The Roadrunners rallied for a victory Tuesday, thanks in large part to Sean Romo who went 4 for 5 with three RBIs, a double, a triple and three runs scored. Angel Garcia was 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Indio product Steven Cuevas went 2 for 4 with a home run. Palm Desert’s Roberto Aldana got the win.

Boys’ golf

Mesa Grande 223, Desert Chapel 287: Aaron Corey led the Eagles with a 46 in this league loss. Desert Chapel (3-2, 0-1) plays Desert Christian Academy on April 13.

Yucca Valley 245, Rancho Mirage 258: DJ Sailor led the way for the Rattlers with a 42 and Brandon Gonzalez added a 46 for Rancho Mirage (2-2, 1-2).

La Quinta 218, Sultana 280: The Blackhawks picked up an easy non-league victory Monday. Steven Padilla-Rue and Nick Conoway each shot a 40 at SilverRock to lead the way. Carter McCue added a 44, Daniel Marrujo a 45 and Ryan Sanchez a 49. La Quinta hosts Coachella Valley at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at The Golf Club of La Quinta.


Desert Christian Academy 19, Palm Valley 2: The Conquerors yielded two runs in the first inning, but took over from then on. Kaylee Espinoza had a huge night with three doubles and a home run for five RBIs. Kirsten Ranswill threw her second consecutive five-inning, complete game one-hitter. She had five strikeouts and yielded no earned runs. Kelsey Bazua had a hit and scored twice. Abby Cathcart had a hit, three runs, two steals and an RBI. Abby Wagner had a double, three RBIs and a steal.

Desert Christian Academy plays Thursday at Bloomington Christian.

Coachella Valley 14, Desert Christian Academy 10: The Arabs trailed 6-0, but rallied with eight runs in the third inning and five more in the sixth to pull away for a victory in the CV Rotary Tournament on Monday.

Jesus Quinonez had two triples, and Angel Frias had two doubles. Julian Inzunza had a single and a double, and Joey Lucas and Chuy Brambila each added two singles. Pedro Torres added a double. Nate Delgado picked up the win for the Arabs (9-2).

Indio 3, San Jacinto 2: Indio collected a win in the first round of the CV Rotary Tournament on Monday. Juanny Sisqueiros was 2 for 3 with two RBIs including a walkoff sacrifice fly. Mike Munoz added two hits and Dominic De La Torre had a hit and two runs including the game-winner. Siqueiros pitched a complete game for the win.

Local tennis

Valley athletes excel: Alex Kuperstein of Palm Desert won the Harper Ink San Diego level three tournament, culminating with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Michael Bott in the final.

Brad Cummins of Rancho Mirage won the 18s at the Monterey Open with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Luciano Ferrer of Indio. Tiani Jadulang of Cathedral City won the 18s at the Monterey Open, also with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the final. Leyla Rizvanbegovic was a finalist in the 10s.

In Long Beach, Kenan Rizvanbegovic was a finalist in the boys 10s and was topped 6-1, 4-6, 10-8. Caleb Saltz (Indio) was a semi-finalist.

At the Ramada Jr. Open, Ellery Bohrmann (Indio) and Jenna Mc Donald (PD) won the 16s doubles with an 8-4 score.
