Offensive tackle Dillon Reinkensmeyer announced his commitment to play at UVA in 2016.
KUSA – Fifteen colleges wanted Valor Christian’s 6-foot-5, 255 pound offensive lineman on their team in 2016, but only one landed him.
“It’s an amazing feeling for sure,” Dillon Reinkensmeyer told 9NEWS after he announced his commitment to play at the University of Virginia to become a Cavalier.
“I went there [Virginia’s campus] twice, once with my dad and once with my whole family. Both of my parents really, really liked it and that was important to me,” Reinkensmeyer said.
Dillon was looking for a school with not only strong athletics, but strong academics.
“Choosing a college isn’t a four year decision, it’s a 40 year because you can’t play football forever. So [I’m] trying to prepare myself for my next phases in life,” explained Reinkensmeyer.
Which sometimes means leaving the comfort of home.
Dillon said he just wants to try something new. “I’ve been in Highlands Ranch for the past 17 years so I’m pretty used to things here,” said Reinkensmeyer. “UVA is going to be a culture shock, and I really like it there. It’s just going to be really different and new and ya know, try to expand my horizons,” Reinkensmeyer added.
Reinkensmeyer had offers from Air Force, Bucknell, Colorado, Colorado State, Eastern Michigan, Kansas, Montana, Navy, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota State, UNLV, Utah State, Virginia and Wyoming.
Dillon plans to major in business, geology or oceanography.
