If a prolific prep football career has to come to a close, this isn’t such a bad way to go out.
Newtown (Conn.) erased a 13-point deficit to pull off a 21-20 comeback in Connecticut’s Class LL state quarterfinals, but UConn-bound Glastonbury (Conn.) senior quarterback Keyion Dixon submitted one last play to his high school highlight reel.
The 6-foot-3, 182-pound quarterback and defensive back turned special teams star and unleashed an 85-yard punt return for the ages. Dixon’s circuitous route to the end zone tied the game at seven in the second quarter, and he added an 83-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to give Glastonbury a 20-7 edge entering the final frame.
Unfortunately, Newtown scored three unanswered touchdowns to advance, but something tells me this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Dixon. While he was recruited as a wide receiver for the Huskies, it’s pretty clear he can make an impact at any position.
