VIDEO: Batter catches pitch in hand rather than accept a walk

There are few moves in a batters box more bold than the one you see successfully employed by  in the video you see above.

As reported by Sports Illustrated, among other outlets, Jojo Odachowski, a shortstop at Mount Pisgah Christian School in Georgia, really hates to be walked without getting a chance to swing. Against St. Francis, an in-state rival from across Alpharetta, Odachowski took the opportunity presented by a high and tight offering to catch the ball en route to the plate rather than stand back and accept a ball.

The result, in the ruling of the umpire (and apparently correctly so) was a hit-by-pitch, which sent Odachowski down to first base. As much as the move was an exhibit of dominance on Odachowski’s part, it wasn’t enough to inspire Mt. Pisgah to victory; St. Francis won the battle, 2-1.

Will anyone remember that final score five years from now? Who knows. It’s not too likely. Will anyone remember Odachowski’s calm reception at the plate?

You better believe it.
