Want to get the folks around Toomer’s Corner really, really excited? Just have the sibling of a former Auburn Heisman winner work out on campus.
That’s precisely what happened on Thursday, when Caylin Newton, the younger brother of Heisman winner turned Carolina Panthers All-Pro Cam Newton, showed up on campus in Auburn, Ala. The Class of 2017 quarterback passed in front of Auburn’s coaches at the Auburn summer camp and proved that the arm strength stuck around throughout this generation of Newton children.
Caylin Newton is not a ranked recruit in the Class of 2017, though his celebrity was enough to earn him a full 247 Sports profile. That lack of a ranking may change if he can keep impressing in passing drills, or if he can grow; the younger Newton currently stands just 5-foot-10.
Starting in September, Caylin Newton will get to prove that his diminutive stature can’t hold him back on the field as he leads Grady High in Atlanta. Show just a little bit of Newton magic and he may very well earn himself a ticket to a Division I future, perhaps even at Auburn. That would probably get folks on The Plains pretty excited.
