The game didn’t always go the way the Celina (Ohio) girls basketball team anticipated, but the final shot was far more successful than they ever could have dreamed.
With Celina and Kenton knotted at 26 with just seconds remaining, Celina inbounded the ball to point guard Heather Heiby, who turned upcourt and proceeded to dribble the ball off the side of her foot. She scrambled and scooped up the loose ball but was facing the opposite hoop.
No matter. Heiby had just enough time to swivel and heave, with her shot swishing home off a line drive trajectory. No need for a bank here.
As noted by Bob’s Blitz, the game’s relative paucity of scoring only made Heiby’s long bucket more impressive: In one fell swoop she scored the game-winner and more than one-tenth of her team’s point total, proving again, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.
