Franklin Castellanos and quite a few of his Red Bulls II teammates got a promotion last night. Castellanos, a midfielder from Dover, was one of 15 USL players who made their Major League Soccer debuts in a friendly against Chelsea FC, the defending English Premier League champion.

Castellanos had a goal and an assist after subbing in at halftime of the International Champions Cup match. He capitalized on a back pass by Chelsea striker John Terry, with a breakaway in the 51st minute. At the time, Castellanos’ goal tied the score, 1-1.

Castellanos’ pass also turned into a header goal for 16-year-old Tyler Adams in the 69th minute. Rookie Sean Davis scored twice for the Red Bulls.

Castellanos, who played for the Red Bulls Academy while at Dover, and his NYRBII teammates were called up because the first team had played a U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal on Tuesday. Striker Dan Metzger of Holmdel also subbed in at halftime against Chelsea. Red Bulls II normally plays in the third-division United Soccer League.
