It’s general a good idea to avoid being kicked out of a game at all cost, but if one must depart stage right, you definitely don’t want to try and make a scene when you’re heading into the sunset.

That moral was reinforced rather dramatically during a junior hockey match when young defenseman Mitchell Skiba all but knocked himself unconscious by trying to hot dog it on the way off the ice. As noted by Next Impulse Sports, Skiba, who plays for the Alpena Flyers, had been handed a spearing game misconduct for his actions in a matchup with the MC Monarchs to set the entire folly in motion.

The smart thing to do at that point would have been a quick, simple skate off the ice. That’s not Skiba’s style, as everyone soon learned all too clearly. As he was leaving the ice, he attempted to slam his stick into the side boards, only to have the stick catch and form a nice, hard high line perfectly suited to knock Skiba off his feet and almost into the afterlife.

Fittingly, Skiba immediately scampered down into the tunnel into the warm obscurity of the locker room. If only he could have escaped the cameras just off the ice so easily …
