Kobi Simmons remains one of the most talented and intriguing players in the Class of 2016. The Georgia native has been a standout throughout the Adidas Uprising circuit and has held his own against the best point guard competition the nation has to offer. He’s a stunning athlete and a a truly creative power in the lane, as he showed in the clip you see above.
That’s Simmons making his own breaks, if you will. The guard worked hard to earn himself just enough open space to potentially get off a shot, only to find himself trapped by a closing defender again. That’s when he lofted a pass to himself off the backboard, using the deflection as a self-alley-oop that set up one massive throwdown.
The jam was breathtaking, both for its execution and the sheer gusto needed to try it in the first place. It’s plays like that which have the likes of Kentucky, North Carolina and Arizona all scrambling to earn his pledge. Wherever he eventually lands, Simmons is likely to bring a versatile athletic punch from the point guard spot that hasn’t been seen in some time.
