Don’t hand out that “Catch of the Year” award just yet. A Michigan third baseman may have something to say about it.
The player you see in the video above is Lorenz Frazier, a junior at Allen Park High in Michigan who stars on both the basketball and baseball squads. While lining up at third base Frazier was sent sprinting toward the dugout and eventually toppled over the railing in pursuit of a foul ball … and came up with the catch.
It was a remarkable grab that almost led to a double play, with Frazier firing the ball back to second base when an opposing baserunner tried to advance rather audaciously when he actually made the catch.
Seen a better play than that? We’re not sure we have, which perhaps is fitting as everyone nationwide looks back on a long baseball season.
