The most important part of Manteo’s game against Perquimans in North Carolina was that Manteo won. That may not be what everyone remembers, though. It’s the shot that Manteo’s star guard Kurtlin Moore connected on.
As noted by North Carolina television network WAVY, Moore pulled in a rebound with fewer than 2 seconds remaining in the first quarter, spun and hurled a rather remarkable full court, one-handed heave. He had no view of the basket, he released it like a glorified sky hook, and watched his masterpiece sail through the net.
“I’ve never seen a shot like that before,” Manteo Head Coach Andrae Butts told WAVY. “The crowd erupted, the kids erupted on the bench. I turned to one of my assistants, and he immediately said, ‘That’s a sportscenter top 10.’”
It was indeed. Moore and his teammates cruised to an 84-70 victory, but it was Moore’s shot that stuck out in the collective memory.
“It was indescribable,” Moore told WAVY. “I never did anything like that.”
