Friday’s Class 3A state semifinal in Florida pitted one of the nation’s top 2016 wide receiver recruits against one of the country’s best 2017 cornerback prospects. And while highly coveted Tampa Catholic senior wideout Nate Craig-Myers finished with 114 yards and two touchdowns on eight receptions, Ohio State-bound Trinity Christian Academy (Jacksonville, Fla.) junior defensive back Shaun Wade left with the highlight of the night and a win to show for it.
In the final minute of the first half — with Trinity Christian already leading 33-7 — Wade took a few steps toward the line, baiting Tampa Catholic junior quarterback to target senior wide receiver Noah Carlson, and then closed on Carlson like a cheetah tracking a gazelle, coming down with a one-handed interception that will rival any you’ve ever seen. Trinity Christian scored another touchdown off the turnover and went on to win by a 47-14 margin.
Wade & Co. next face American Heritage (Delray Beach, Fla.) in Saturday’s Class 3A state title game, and AH sophomore QB Cameron Smith better be watching film on the Ohio State recruit. There are plenty of highlights to see.
