Making a half court shot at a high school prep rally is a cool, though not unprecedented accomplishment. For one South Carolina teen, it was apparently the experience of a lifetime.
The young lady you see in the video above is Hannah Lee, a senior at James Island Charter High School in Charleston, S.C. At her school’s pep rally on Thursday, Lee was selected to attempt a halfcourt shot. The prize was $100.
Lee wound up and released a heave of a shot from midcourt … and got nothing but net. The shot was perfect, but her celebration may have been even better, with the senior immediately exploding in delirium and running around the back left side of the gym like a caged animal let out to race in circular laps. It was remarkable.
Of course, $100 is a much more significant sum of money when you’re in high school, so it’s understandable that Lee might have felt as if she had just won the lottery. Still, that reaction could be justified for a winning lottery ticket of $1 million or more, so Lee deserves plenty of credit with living life with gusto and the kind of unbridled enthusiasm usually reserved for 6-year-olds heading in to Chuck-E-Cheese. Good on her for it, too.
