Talk about ending the season on a high note.
Lakewood (Ohio) played host to Amherst (Ohio) in the final game of the year. Tied 3-3 with just over six minutes left in the fourth quarter, Amherst lined up for a go-ahead field goal attempt. Unfortunately for the Comets, Lakewood’s Michael Goolsby had other plans.
Goolsby came flying around the corner, blocked the field goal attempt and took it back 80-yards for a Ranger touchdown to take the lead.
The crazy thing: Goolsby blocked-and-caught the ball mid-air. It literally never hit the ground!
Amherst proceeded to return the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, immediately tying the game once again.
Lakewood hit a field goal with one second left for the 13-10 win, but it’s safe to say Goolsby’s return will live on as the play of the year.
