So, Thon Maker is off to a decent start to his senior season.
The 7-foot-1 Sudanese stud has begun his final prep campaign for Toronto’s Athlete Institute, and he’s already having his way with opponents, averaging 27.9 points in his first seven games — including a season-high 37 points to go along with 11 boards in his senior debut. The above play against BTB Prep illustrates the breadth of Maker’s Kevin Durantism, crossing one defender, finding a teammate on the block and coming out of nowhere to put back the dunk.
Honestly, how is anyone — let alone another prep player — going to stop his combination of size and athleticism?
Mars Reel has all the highlights from the BTB victory and will be following Maker all season, so stay tuned, because the 18-year-old is bound to drop a feature-film’s worth of jaw-dropping highlights this year. There’s a reason he’s projected as a first-round pick in the 2017 NBA draft before he’s even selected a college destination. Don’t be surprised if he starts steadily climbing those mock drafts, too, as the Vines, Instagram videos and gifs start rolling in 2015-16.
