The things coaches will do for top recruits.
Urban Meyer has been the toast of college coaching and recruiting since his Buckeyes captured the first ever College Football Playoff title. In an effort to ensure the Buckeyes maintain their perch, he’s been recruiting as furiously as ever, including outreach into talent-rich Southern states some way from the home comfort of Ohio, Texas and Florida chief among them. One of those states is Texas, home of top Euless Trinity defensive tackle Chris Daniels, who is one of the nation’s top defensive line recruits.
Daniels recently took a trip to Columbus, where he was speaking with Meyer and pulled out his cell phone to capture a video selfie with the national champion coach, as teens are wont to do. What followed was Urban Meyer delivering the line of the 2016 recruiting season so far, with a hint of 1980s and 90s Harrison Ford swagger.
“I want Texas flavor up in Ohio.”
Now that is a salesman. While Ohio State wasn’t particularly high up Daniels’ alleged recruiting board before his visit, that may very well be changing. After all, how many times does a national champion football coach make a customized sales pitch to a recruit on a video selfie?
