Cynthia Brown made history on this fake field goal attempt, becoming the first female to ever throw a touchdown pass in the state of Virginia.

The historic event occurred in Virginia, where Portsmouth’s Woodrow Wilson kicker Cynthia Brown completed an impressive pass on a fake field goal to receiver Kevin Whitfield, who took the pass to the house for a 52-yard score. The touchdown would be the only points scored by Wilson all game, a 14-6 loss to Deep Creek, but it is also among a very small number of scoring passes thrown by a female, even though Brown wasn’t a quarterback. Miranda McOsker famously came off the bench in Southern California to throw three touchdown passes in relief of an injured starter in a game for Bishop Montgomery in 2005, and there have been rare female quarterback appearances since, particularly those by Erin DiMeglio in Florida in 2012.

To be fair, the pass required a bit of nimble receiving on Whitfield’s part, but Brown did a good job of ensuring she got her pass off before she was reached by blitzing defenders, and Whitfield did the rest.

Now Brown belongs alongside McOsker in the annals of great female football players, something she may not have anticipated entering the 2015 season.
