Few things are more fun than kids excelling — and pulling upsets — in camp competitions. This clip from Tom Izzo’s Michigan State basketball camp belongs right up there.
At the end of Izzo’s camp sessions, he and his staff hold a free throw contest. At one of the most recent sessions, the eventual winner was none other than 9-year-old Ryan Boyce, who nailed 10 consecutive shots from the charity stripe to take the camp title.
Ten straight free throws for a 9-year-old is no joke. Heck, 10 straight free throws for most high schoolers is an impressive run. All of which is just to say that Boyce certainly deserve all the instant jubilation and accolades that came down on him on the court in East Lansing.
It also means he’s worth keeping an eye on in the years ahead. Any 9-year-old who can hit free throws without a second thought is worth keeping track of as he progressing toward the next level, particularly in an era where 12 and 13-year-olds are landing college scholarship offers.
